Surface Foundry / FIELD NOTE
Know what you are downloading
Surface Foundry is a curated library of assets from ambientCG and Poly Haven. We do not claim to have photographed every surface or modelled every object. Each material page names its original source and creator, and links to the source record.
The selected asset files are released under CC0 1.0. You can use, modify and redistribute them, including in commercial work, without a copyright attribution requirement. CC0 does not provide warranties or automatically clear trademarks, privacy or publicity rights. Read the Creative Commons CC0 summary when planning a use where those distinctions matter.
Keep the small source file
A download is more useful when you can identify it later. Keep SOURCE.txt beside your working files and retain the original ID in project notes. A short line such as “Travertine009, ambientCG, CC0” makes it easier to find the source when you revisit a scene.
Attribution is not imposed as a new condition by Surface Foundry. We display it to preserve the work's history. A collection groups existing assets into one archive; it does not replace their licence with a more restrictive licence.
Check integrity separately
Our asset pages publish the file size and a SHA-256 checksum. After a download finishes, calculate its SHA-256 with a local tool and compare the complete value. A matching checksum indicates that your copy matches the file we published. It is not a test of artistic quality or a legal clearance.
If a transfer is interrupted, try your browser's resume action or a download client that supports HTTP byte ranges. If extraction fails, verify the checksum before troubleshooting your 3D application. Keep the original ZIP and work from a separate extracted copy. For a first experiment, download Pale travertine, read its source record and compare its checksum before building a material.
